Bev's Baby Snuggle Cap
For 5-7 lb newborns and 2-3 lb preemies - add 4 more sts for larger newborns. Hat has quite a bit of stretch.

Materials: Size 8 needles, 1 oz soft worsted weight or baby yarn, yarn needle

Row 1: Cast on 42 sts, (38 sts small newborn) (28 for 3 lb preemie)
Row 2: K2, P2 across.
Repeat row 2 for a total of 8 rows.
Rows 9 and 10: Purl

Row 11-14 (stockinette stitch - knit 1 row, purl 1 row)
Rows 15 and 16: Purl
Row 17-20 (stockinette stitch - knit 1 row, purl 1 row)


Continue in this manner till hat measures 5". (4")
Decrease row 1: K 2 together across to end of row.
Decrease row 2: Purl across.
Decrease row 3: K 2 together across to end of row.
Decrease row 4: Purl across.
Decrease row 5: K 2 together across to end of row.
Decrease row 6: Purl across.
Cut yarn with a 12" tail. Using a yarn needle, thread yarn in needle and then weave needle and yarn through remaining hat stitches on needle to remove from knitting needle. Pull tightly to gather, then sew the hat seam down to the brim. Stitch back and forth inside hat a few time and cut yarn to end.
