♥ These would be great to make via Lion Brand Yarns for the #hatnothate program ♥
These make such lovely, warm hats for shelters, schools, gifts, and one for yourself of course! Winter is on it's way!
This makes a
stretchy hat that fits Elementary school aged children-- it can be enlarged or made smaller if you wish..
J hook
3 oz worsted
weight yarn
1 large eyed
yarn needle to weave in ends
Starting
at TOP of hat:
Rnd 1: Ch 4, join into a ring, ch 3
(counts as dc for the counts) and then make 11 more dc into ring, join with slip stitch
in top of 1st dc .
Rnd 2: ch 3 and dc in same st, *2 dc
in each st* around including the base of the ch 3 of previous round, join with slip stitch in top of
1st dc . (24 dc)
Rnd 3: ch 3 and dc in same st, *1dc
in next st, 2 dc in next st* around, join with slip stitch in top of
1st dc (36 dc)
Rnd 4: ch 3 and dc in same st, *1dc
in next 2st, 2dc in next st* around, join with slip stitch in top of
1st dc (48 dc) (Stop here for smaller children)
Rnd 5: ch 3 and dc in same st, *1dc
in next 3st, 2dc in next st* around, join with slip stitch in top of
1st dc (60 dc) (to increase hat size here, continue to increase in like manner until you have the size you want).
Rnd 6 - 20 (15 rounds): ch 3 and dc in same st,
FPDC in ea dc around - including that VERY last FPDC there-- it
increases the hat by one stitch each time around (you could also join
in the first FPDC and NOT work into that very last FPDC for a straight
up and down look but the hat will be a bit smaller),
Join with slip
stitch in top of 1st dc. Cut 4" yarn tail.
Fasten off and
weave in 4" yarn tail.
